School District News

From Superintendent

Robert Vian

District

A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned a few people who have been very supportive of our community schools.  There are so many others that should be mentioned including Avista Utilities who provide the District Office and Community Meeting Room at no cost to the community or district.

Galen and Mary Kuykendall have virtually funded the football program at OHS for several years.  Football is probably our most expensive sport, and without their support the program would be hamstrung.

You cannot attend an event at OHS without seeing Earl Vicory volunteering somewhere.

Lonnie and Shannon Simpson donate time, money and equipment frequently.  They painted Cavendish School last summer.  Their trucks hauled chips to the OES playground a couple of weeks ago.  Chips donated by Tri-Pro.

John Anderson and Riverside Construction makes frequent repairs requiring specialized equipment and on the rare occasions he accepts money for his work it is well below market value.

Karen Williams volunteers almost every day she is not called to substitute at Orofino Elementary.  My first year as superintendent I thought she was a full time employee.

Gradi Thomson is the “Karen Williams” of Timberline.  She helps around the school almost every day.  My year as principal at Timberline, I thought she was a sophomore who was skipping class, I saw her so much.

Will Crockett at Orofino Builders Supply sold the district all the new windows at OES, OHS, and Timberline as well as the siding at OES at his cost.  That saved district taxpayers a bunch of money and made completing the remodeling projects easier.

Timberline students and volunteers participated in a town litter patrol on 4/22/16.  Michelle Sellers (Timberline Teacher) organized the event and utilized a Thrivent grant to fund t-shirts for volunteers.   57 volunteers including 37 students turned out to support the event.

Mary Ann's Grocery in Weippe donated food and the county provided support with garbage bags, vests, and signs.  The group covered about 12 miles of highway and numerous neighborhoods in town.  There were over 75 bags of litter collected.  This was a great opportunity for students and adults to serve our local community.
