Superintendent Search Nears Conclusion

 

The Superintendent Search Committee made up of local citizens and school employees has been conducting a search for a new superintendent of schools.  The committee members, Linda Applington, Lenne Bonner, Dr. Kelly McGrath, Jason Hunter, Ryan Smathers, Michelle George, Mindy Pollock, Carmen Griffith, Denise Pomponio, Trustee Jerry Nelsen and Board Chair Cindy O’Brien have spent the past two months meeting to determine the parameters of the search and the criteria for a successful candidate.

 

Ten candidate sent complete applications to the district. Eight of the ten are experienced superintendents, from small school districts.  One each from Texas, Oklahoma, California, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, and Washington. 

 

The committee conducted “Skype” interviews with the candidates and narrowed the list of potentials to two individuals.

 

James Miller is Superintendent of Coleman Public Schools in Coleman, Oklahoma.  James is married and has seven children, five adopted.

 

Michael Garrett is Superintendent of Fairfax Schools in Fairfax Missouri.  He is married with two children who are both attending Oregon State University.  Michael’s wife is a science teacher.

 

The two finalist for the Superintendent’s position will arrive in Orofino on Monday, January 30th and tour the district on Tuesday.  Public interviews with the Board of Trustees and the Superintendent Search Committee will take place on Tuesday, January 31 at Orofino High School at 6:00 and 7:00.

 

Members of the public will receive score sheets so that they may rate each candidates’ responses to questions.  The Board will consider the public responses as a part of the deliberations for the position..
