District Award

Thanks to the work of all, the district has been recognized for our Breakfast in the Classroom at the National level.  See attached letter from Marissa Chueng Special Nutrition Programs, Western Region of the FDA.

We are pleased to announce that Orofino Joint School District is a recipient of the Western Region’s 2017 Champions of Breakfast Award for the category Tradition of Excellence in School Breakfast Service, as nominated by the Idaho Hunger Relief Task Force. The Champions of Breakfast Awards recognize schools and districts that operate exemplary School Breakfast Programs. We commend your efforts in achieving an outstanding breakfast participation rate of 99.4% through implementing a successful Breakfast in the Classroom Model district with the support of the Superintendent, school board, teachers and community members.

To recognize Orofino Joint School District’s commitment to School Breakfast, please accept this Champions of Breakfast Award certificate and banner as a token of our appreciation. Thank you and your team for your dedication to providing nutritious breakfasts to children. In addition, the Western Regional Office would like to invite you to share your story and present your best practices on a webinar prior to next school year. ................. ?

Congratulations! Orofino Joint School District is a winner of the 2017 Champions of Breakfast Award for Tradition of Excellence in School Breakfast Service. You were nominated by the Idaho Hunger Relief Task Force. The announcement letter is included as an attachment to this email, along with a graphic of the banner Orofino Joint School District will receive.

Thank you for your hard work and support of the School Breakfast Program. We wish you continued success throughout the school year!

Governor Butch Otter will declare March 6-10 Idaho School Breakfast Week in a Boise Ceremony.  In conjunction with his declaration Clearwater County Board Chairman Don Ebert will present the district with a framed copy of the Governor's deceleration and a large banner proclaiming JSD #171 as the "Champions of Breakfast" of the Western Region of the U.S.at an assembly at Orofino Elementary School on Wednesday March 8th at 9:00.

This is truly a group effort which started at Timberline Elementary when they piloted BIC.  The program expanded throughout the district thanks to the hard work of the food service staff under Carmen's direction and with the implementation of the teachers and building administrators.  Thank you all for recognizing how important nutrition is to the learning process.
